LSU Starting Pitcher
Fr. RHP Eric Walker (8-1, 3.46 ERA)
It has been a while since LSU handed the ball to their standout freshman but he has been extremely effective all post-season. In 15.2 post-season innings, Walker has been nearly unhittable, striking out 16 batters while only giving up one run. He started the championship game of the SEC Tournament and is no stranger to pitching in big games against quality opponents. If Walker stays in plus pitcher counts and has his command, he will be extremely tough on Oregon State’s hitters.
Oregon State Starting Pitcher
So. RHP Bryce Fehmel (5-2, 3.80 ERA)
Fehmel was brilliant in his last start, striking out ten Commodores in a game that sent Oregon State to Omaha. The Beavers have put together an amazing season to this point and their pitching has been the backbone of the team. With the loss of Luke Heimlich for the rest of the postseason, Fehmel will need to come up with a big time performance in a pivotal game Monday night.
GAME PREVIEW AND ANALYSIS
If there’s anyone who can stop Oregon State’s amazing run, it’s LSU. The Tigers have been red hot since the SEC Tournament, in which they out-scored SEC opponents 35-5 en route to winning it all. LSU has cruised this postseason and Paul Manieri brings a veteran ball-club into this prime time match-up. Look for a tight, low scoring game as both starters should go deep in this ballgame. The game will come down to which team does the little things right in the later innings and which young starter steps up.
