The Detroit Lions add depth to their defensive line. Signing defensive tackles Akeem Spence and Cornelius Washington. The moves were made earlier today, shortly after releasing linebacker DeAndre Levy.

Akeem Spence, 25, was a rotational player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the past four seasons. He is set to play a huge role in the rotation for the Lions and ,potentially, compete for a starting position come training camp.

Cornelius Washington, 27, was a solid lineman/linebacker for the Chicago Bears. Coming from a division rival, Washington has some insight on what it takes to win in the division. When training camp rolls around, he should be poised to compete for a rotational spot.

General Manager Bob Quinn continues to do what he did last season, and sign guys that build to the team’s depth; continuing the process of adding players that Head Coach Jim Caldwell can plug and play on the roster. The Lions look to be finished with the splash signings, and now turn their focus to signing the right guys to fill in the roster.

My name is Jeremy Dill, and I am a proud fan of the 2008 Preseason Champs the Detroit Lions. However, that is not where my fandom ends. I enjoy all four major sports and the UFC. I root for all Detroit teams and am currently a transplant living in Central Florida and attended the University of Central Florida. If I can help it, I never miss a game no matter the sport. Sports are a huge part of my life. When not watching sports, I enjoy golfing and windsurfing. For those of you who watched “The Game”….. JT Barrett did not get that first down.
