A little more than a year has passed since Bob Stoops stepped down and handed the reigns over to then offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. Immediately, the fan base was shocked, not knowing what to expect from the young, offensive minded coach. Especially when a living legend stepped down with the most wins in school history – 190.

With full confidence, Coach Riley took over. It was clear the culture of OU football was in for a change, but would it be good or bad? Those questions were answered quickly once the team stepped on the field. When he put together a game plan to take down the Buckeyes in the Horseshoe, the fans no longer needed convincing.

Throughout the season, and before the Rose Bowl, it was more about what he was accomplishing off the field – locking in a top recruiting class for the 2018/19 season featuring some potential stars on both sides of the ball. For 2019/20, he has already secured the number one QB in Spencer Rattler. Lincoln Riley is fiery and passionate, and he knows how to recruit and to make these high school studs want to be a Sooner.

Lincoln Riley coached up a storm last season with OU’s offense, led by his aggressive and risky play calling, and a little help from Baker Mayfield and Rodney Anderson down the stretch. The Sooners had the number one offense in the nation, averaging nearly 580 yards a game, and winning big games on the road and at home.

When the Sooners lost to Georgia in the Rose Bowl, many people were upset, but the season itself was a magical one. Everyone in Memorial Stadium could feel the tide shifting, and for Sooner fans this culture change should last until the spark in Riley fades.

The 18 year era of Stoops had ups and downs, but the passing of the torch to Lincoln Riley has set the Sooners up big time for a lot more ups in the future. The Sooners, under the helm of Riley, will look to compete for Big 12 and National Championships, and they’ll do it with a little Lincoln Riley swagger along the way.
