The excitement over the 7th overall pick and former Arizona freshman sensation Lauri Markkanen continues to grow, and will grow even more now that he has a big endorsement deal.
Given his name and the accolades he had during his time as a Wildcat, the now Chicago Bull, signed a multi-year endorsement deal with one of the biggest names in basketball: Nike. Markkanen took to Twitter to share his feelings and nostalgic thoughts about the brand:
He will be joining the company of some current UA alumni who also have Nike deals: Channing Frye (Cleveland Cavaliers), Richard Jefferson (Cleveland Cavaliers), Andre Iguodala (Golden State Warriors), and Derrick Williams (Free Agent).
Markkanen will also join a class of just seven other rookies in the 2017 draft class that will represent the Nike brand. He is one of the highest picked players in that group, and certainly the only Finnish one.
That being said, is it too outlandish to see Markkanen try and push forth a concept for a shoe that is white and blue? Or maybe even one with the Finnish flag on the tongue of the shoe? Or maybe he’ll throw caution to the wind and the shoe, as a whole, will look like the Finnish flag?
Whether he designs a Finland-inspired shoe or not, he has quite the future ahead of him. Markkanen still has two more games with the Bulls to show what he’s made of on the court. The Bulls play today at 3 p.m. ET against the Atlanta Hawks and Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET against the Washington Wizards.
