It’s been an electric start to the season for the Toronto Raptors. Off to the best start in franchise history with a 6-0 record, there has been many guys step up and make their mark on the season so far.

Better With Age

While Kawhi Leonard has certainly exceeded expectations, I’d like to focus on the unsung hero of the squad right now: Kyle Lowry. Lowry has aged like a fine wine, and is playing possibly the best basketball we’ve seen from him in a Raptors uniform.

At 32 years old, entering his second season of a three-year/$100 million contract, many figured Lowry would regress. Many point guards don’t fare well as they enter their 30’s due to the speed the game is played at, and is needed for their position. That isn’t the case with Lowry.

Better With Age

Lowry currently leads the league in assists per game with 10.3, while averaging 19.8 points per game on an extremely efficient 57.5 field goal percentage. Lowry is also making 53 percent of his 3-point shots a game, in which he attempts an average of six per game. Lowry’s playing his most efficient basketball of his career.

Lowry’s ability to facilitate the ball and control the tempo of the game are his best assets. He knows he’s playing beside a top five player in the league who is consistent every night, meaning Lowry doesn’t have to play “hero ball” like he had to in years past.

The newfound trust in his teammates, specifically Leonard, is huge to his level of play this year.

Keep it up, Kyle

He’s been an absolute dawg on defense as well, averaging just over a steal per game. It’ll be interesting to see if he can sustain this form and get himself back in the All-Star game.

In the meantime, checkout the court vision from the Raptors’ floor general in their win over the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 26.

I’ve been living the Toronto sports lifestyle since I was a kid. Thus, I’ve become pretty accustom to being let down by my favourite teams for a long, long time (the 2006 NBA Draft and the John Ferguson Jr. Era are still two memories I’m trying to suppress). After attempting an athletic career in many sports such as basketball, hockey, and rugby I realized that my specific talents were more suited towards the Armchair style of sports indulgence. I love all things basketball, specifically the Toronto Raptors, the NBA Draft, and college basketball. I’m also a big fan of soccer, supporting Arsenal FC and keeping up with European soccer in general. Finally, I’m a firm believer that 2011 Derrick Rose was the most electrifying player to watch since Allen Iverson, and nobody has come close since.
