Kentucky Baseball picks up their first SEC road series win and Football is back in the bluegrass. That and more in this weekends recap:
The Bat Cats get a much needed series win in Athens.
The first night was crazy with the game heading into extras. The Cats were able to score 2 runs in the 11th inning to rally for the win. Due to inclement weather, Georgia and Kentucky had to play a double header on Saturday. In the first game, Kentucky fell 9-7, obviously the pitching hadn’t helped the offense much in the first two games. Well, that all changed in the night game on Saturday that saw Kentucky shutting out Georgia on their way to a 1-0 win. This puts the Cats at 25-11 on the season, really making a push towards postseason play.
Kentucky Football is back!
On Friday, we saw the team back in action under the Friday night lights for a fun blue-white spring game. Blue won the game 36-26, and there were a couple standouts that you need to know about the game. First, AJ Rose showed some serious juice and rushed for 134 yards on 11 carries to go along with three touchdowns. Second, the quarterback race looks even. Terry Wilson and Gunner Hoak both got 24 reps, Terry threw for 131 yards on 10 of 24 passing and one interception while Gunner threw for 124 on 14 of 25 passing and one touchdown. Who else is counting down the days until September 1st?
Kentucky Softball loses a tough series to Texas A&M.
This weekend the softball team struggled mightily in the first game against the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies. They lost the game 9-2 off of some hot bats for the Aggies. On Saturday, Texas A&M walked off against the Cats in a heartbreaking loss (4-3) in which Kentucky gave up four unanswered runs to end the game. Kentucky finally overcame Texas A&M in the final game of the series, winning by a score of 3-2. Mallory Payton added a homer in the fifth inning, bringing her total to five on the season.
That’s it! Come back next Monday to catch up on everything you missed from the weekend.
