After scraping by A&M, the one thing that remains constant with these guys is their lack of an offensive identity. During last nights game, they never got into a consistent flow and it nearly cost them the game.
Here’s a couple tellers as to why this team still has no offensive identity:
They go through droughts. It seems like every game Kentucky goes through huge droughts, usually in the first half. Yesterday, they didn’t make a single basket in seven minutes. Seven minutes!! That can’t happen. If Kentucky wants to win the SEC, they’re going to have to limit the droughts as much as possible.
A lot of one-on-one ball. This may be the biggest teller of why the Cats don’t have an identity on offense. Too many times we see Hami, Kevin, or Shai go one-on-one and take an ugly shot driving to the basket. This team doesn’t move the ball well, and we see that when when they go through those droughts mentioned above. The guys need to get better at spreading the ball around to each other.
With all of that being said, the one thing the Cats did really well last night was execute in clutch times. With 5 min left, it’s like they went into a different zone. They made six free throws in a row, caused multiple turnovers, and hit some big time shots. Despite making some silly plays at the end, overall, they made the right plays to win the game.
