The Celtics have signed rookie guard @AllenKadeem to a two-way contract.
Given that the contract is a two-way deal, it is still unknown as to whether Allen will be a Celtic or a Maine Red Claw (G-League affiliate) for the majority of the season.
Two-way contracts are a new concept being introduced to the NBA after players in developmental leagues could be picked up by any team despite any relations to a single NBA team. Now, these “fringe” players are given a contract to stay with a single organization but still have the chance to play in the G-league. As HoopsHype puts it, it is also a system that encourages players to stay in North America and not go overseas.
The details of the contract have not been revealed yet.
Allen played in every summer league game for the Celtics and registered a high of nine points and five rebounds in their final game against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Celtics schedule will be released in August, so fans might learn the date for Allen’s potential first NBA game then.
