Two familiar faces returning to TBA will be rising seniors Jordan Bowden and Lamonte Turner. The young Vols team will look to these two for leadership this season. With these two returning, Tennessee looks to have one of the best and most experienced backcourts in the nation.

Lamonte Turner, the longest turned Vol, is due for a big season in his final on Rocky Top. After logging a career high 31 minutes a game last season, Turner posted career high stats across the board averaging 11 points, three steals, and four boards.

Jordan Bowden is also coming off an impressive junior season in which he averaged 10.6 points per game, doing his work mostly off the bench. His role will heavily increase this upcoming season as he has the measurable (6’5, 193 lbs), of an NBA prospect and is starting to see his name creep up on mock drafts. Last season, the Vols were 18-3 in games in which the Knoxville native scored more than 10 points.

The pair found instant chemistry early in their respective careers, earning the nickname ‘Thunder and Lightning’. You can tell watching these guys play that they feed off of and complement each other well, this team will go as far as these two can take them.

Prior to the Purdue game in last years NCAA tournament, Bowden said that when Turner is locked in on defense,

“It brings energy to the team, seeing him locking in and shutting down [opposing guards] helps us so much.”

Lamonte returned the praise in his September 9th tweet,

“Jordan Bowden [is] the best shooting guard in the country. @ me.”

Coach Barnes had this to say about his to leaders in his appearance on March Madness 365 podcast with Andy Katz,

“[Lamonte] has truly done a great job in terms of the leadership. And Jordan Bowden’s been with us four years. Those two guys have played a lot of minutes together.”

Coach Barnes added that he was “excited” to coach this 2019-2020 team that he feels is going to be “in the mix” as we prepare for Tennessee basketball in the post-Grant Williams era.

Lifelong Tennessee fan so I’m used to the disappointment. My first dream was to suit up for the Vols on the basketball court, but being a 5’8 kid from Knoxville held me back severely. Now I’m stuck here with you guys, covering the Vols. For better or worse!
