The Michigan Wolverines will return to Ann Arbor for their homecoming game against the Maryland Terrapins this weekend. After making a strong 17 point comeback against the Northwestern Wildcats while on the road, it should feel good to be back at The Big House.
While at Ryan Field last weekend, the Wolverines made their biggest comeback since 2011 when they played Notre Dame. Northwestern entered the game at a 14 ½ spread and managed to score 17 points in the first half against Don Brown’s No. 1 ranked defense. Michigan made its comeback with two touchdowns by Karan Higdon while the defense only allowed 97 yards by Northwestern in the final three quarters.
Michigan approaches their homecoming game with a solid 4-1 record. Maryland also enters Ann Arbor with a 3-1 record, where they managed to beat the No. 19 ranked Texas Longhorns in their season opener. The Terrapins are playing without the offensive lineman, Jordan McNair, after losing him in a controversial death to heatstroke. Head coach D.J. Durkin is under scrutiny for the incident and the Terrapins play under interim coach Matt Canada.
The Terrapins recently dominated Minnesota 42-13 on their home turf in College Park, Maryland. The freshman running back Anthony McFarland ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns – his best game this season. The Maryland athletes have been playing hard under their interim head coach and for their fallen teammate and will enter the upcoming game as underdogs with a 17 ½ spread.
This will be the Wolverines’ last game before they finally face the higher-ranked teams on their schedule. If they can defeat Maryland this weekend, they will enter the upcoming game against No. 16 Wisconsin with a strong 3-0 record in the Big Ten.
