Invictus Gaming Ravage Fnatic in a 3-0 Stomp

This was it: one final series to play. A new champion would be crowned and Fnatic had a chance to be that champion. However, it was not destined to be so, as Invictus Gaming came into this series with a fire behind them. The Chinese fans came out in force, as the stadium roared for Invictus Gaming from the beginning of the series.

Game One: FNC (0) vs IG (0)

The first game of the series began with a first blood ten minutes into the game. The Invictus Gaming jungler, Gao “Ning” Zhen-Ning secured first blood onto the Fnatic midlaner. Ning began a snowball from there, chain-ganking Rasmus “Caps” Winther. As Invictus Gaming put Fnatic significantly behind in the early-game, the rest of the game followed in IG’s favor. Eighteen minutes into the game, there was a 5-1 turret advantage for IG along with a six-thousand gold lead. Minutes later, a Baron bait from Invictus Gaming was enough to draw the attention of the Fnatic roster.

The fight that followed the Baron bait was sloppily played by Fnatic. Invictus Gaming was able to draw away Caps with the potential of a kill in the bottom lane. This essentially removed him from the fight completely. Within seconds of starting the Baron, as Fnatic attempted to get vision in an attempt to steal, Invictus Gaming turned on the jungle-support duo and jumped on them. This split up the fight and gave an advantage to Invictus Gaming. IG then turned and took the Baron and set up a beautiful teamfight with their advantages and ended the game with a Baron-empowered push.

Game Two: FNC (0) vs IG (1)

Coming into game two, it was all about Ning. His proactive plays on Gragas were enough to sign the death certificates of Fnatic. As a whole, this game was more even than the first game with Fnatic making enough plays to prevent a complete stomp. Fnatic was able to relieve some of the pressure in the mid-game through reactive plays of Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen. He was the only thing really keeping the Fnatic roster in this game for a majority of it.

However, as the game progressed, the collective strength of Invictus Gaming was too much for Fnatic to bear. Around thirteen minutes into the game, after IG were pushed off the Infernal Drake, they turned back onto Fnatic. This lead to the death of Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau along with the dragon. From then on, there was almost never a moment where the IG players were alone. Also, their superior teamfighting was enough to secure the victory fight after fight. In an attempt to pull off a miracle comeback, Fnatic decide to start Baron using Bwipo as a distraction. They did manage to secure the Baron, but it died before they were able to use it at all. A few sieges later, Invictus Gaming managed to take down the base of Fnatic and thus the game.

Game Three: FNC (0) vs IG (2)

This game was significantly closer than either previous matchup. In each of the previous games, Fnatic fell behind early game. Eventually they would get outscaled and outplayed as the game progressed. However, this game was seemingly in Fnatic’s favor in the beginning, only falling off the more Invictus Gaming grouped for teamfights. As predicted, the individual talent in the top lane and the midlane for Invictus Gaming was shown superior on the day to that of Fnatic. Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok, the top laner of Invictus Gaming, showed up big for his team in multiple fights and truly secured the game for them.

Just as the Baron spawned, Invictus Gaming started it up only for it to get stolen by Broxah. In the end, this simply delayed the end of the game as Fnatic was still too weak to push their waves. Fnatic’s inability to push waves hindered their advanced vision. This then ended up letting Invictus Gaming get the better of them. With a large push in the bottom lane, Invictus Gaming were able to get three kills and secure the base of Fnatic. The last stand of Fnatic was a valiant one, but in the end, Invictus Gaming took them down to become the first ever Chinese World Champion.

FINAL RESULTS: Fnatic (0) – Invictus Gaming (3)

I have been an esports fan since MLG was the only real place for esports. I am an avid fan of League of Legends and will break out my phone to watch it in the most inappropriate of places including, but not limited to, family picnics, work, port-a-potties and weddings. I bore the brains out of my fiancee with talk about map rotations, mid-season roster updates, and why NA will win worlds…eventually. Starting in 2017, I became more engrossed in the analytical side of League of Legends and in the players themselves rather than the organizations as a whole. League of Legends will probably be the death of me, while I sit at my computer for hours watching a VOD in a language that I don’t understand at twice the normal speed.
