The Philadelphia 76ers made a major change to the roster trading away Jerryd Bayless Dario Saric and Robert Covington to the Minnesota Timberwolves and in exchange, the team received All-Star Jimmy Butler along with Justin Patton. How does this trade now look for the Eastern Conference?

Original East contendors

Going into this season many people only had one or two teams in the East that could compete in the finals many say the Boston Celtics as the team will now have a healthy Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward as well as their supporting cast of Jayson TatumJaylen Brown and Al Horford. The other pick was the Toronto Raptors. They traded away DeMar DeRozan and in return, they got back Kawhi Leonard which many people consider a top-5 player in the league when healthy. Currently, Toronto is looking like they will crack the 60-win mark for the first time in their franchise history.

Many people had the 76ers in mind for the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, since they did not make any drastic changes in the offseason, fans saw them being stuck in no man’s land. They were really good in the regular season. Unfortunately, they didn’t have much success in the postseason.

What does Butler mean in Philly?

Now that Butler is on the team, this just created a giant swing in who will come out of the East in April. The 76ers just gave themselves a potential big three in the future as the team already has Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. As of now, no one knows what will happen with Butler. He is an unrestricted free agent in the upcoming offseason.

Without doubt, this trade could work out for the East. It now feels that the conference is as competitive as it has been in quite a long time. Many people now might be interested in who will be representing the East in the finals especially since LeBron James is now in the Western Conference.

The 76ers have now positioned themselves quite well, if Butler stays, for quite a long time.
