The Kentucky Wildcats season opened Saturday with a solid win over Central Michigan. After a rocky start, things picked up for Mark Stoops’ team.  The Cats wound up winning the game 35-20.  With one win under their belt and traveling to Florida this Saturday, we learned a lot about this team in one week.  Here’s some takeaways from last weeks win.

AJ Rose Shining

Benny Snell is still the go to running back for this Kentucky team, but his backup has a bright future in the program.  AJ Rose seems to be the number two back for this team.  We got our first taste of what he brings to the table when he ran for a 00 yard touchdown.  If he can keep playing at this level Kentucky will have a insane one-two punch.

2nd Half Defense

It was a rough first half for Kentucky as they let up 20 points in the first two quarters. After their struggles, they came out in the second half and shut out Central Michigan.  If they can take this same urgency throughout the season they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.  Returning most of their starters on defense will benefit this team.  Look for them to come out with something to prove on Saturday.

QB Controversy Continues

Most of Big Blue Nation thought they found their new starting quarterback before Saturday’s game.  Terry Wilson was supposed to be the quarterback that changed the program, well… not so fast.  After two interceptions and an injury Wilson was out and Gunnar Hoak replaced him.  After coming in for Wilson, Hoak threw a touchdown.  After seeing both play there’s still a big question mark for this offense.  Who will take the reigns week 2?  Expect both to get snaps moving forward.  May the best man win.

The Cats travel to Gainesville Saturday to face the Gators.  It’s been over 30 years since Kentucky last beat them.  Let’s hope the streak ends once and for all.
