The Atlanta Hawks went into Brooklyn with the same problems they’ve been having all season. With a 144-127 loss, it shows that the Hawks can put up points, but also have a hard time playing defense. The Brooklyn Nets came into the game on a four-game win streak. Players such as D’Angelo Russell and Jarrett Allen have been playing well for the young team.

Another bad start

The Hawks have started the first quarter of many games this season very slow. The trend continued in this game as they were down by as much as 20. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson lit the Hawks up to start the game and it seemed like the Hawks couldn’t get back in the game. If the Hawks can just handle their business to start, games may go well for them. Going into the second quarter the Hawks were down, 42-23, but did find some type of momentum to start.

John Collins balling

Since John Collins has returned, he has been putting up big numbers for the Hawks. He finished the game with 29 points and eight rebounds, another one of his best games in this stretch. The third quarter was where he did most of his damage, but it didn’t show because the Nets had an answer for almost anything that was thrown at them. Collins has been showing his improved arsenal of moves this season and once he gets his chemistry with Trae Young together, they’ll be a dangerous duo.

Defensive struggles continue

The Nets scored 144 points in the game, the most they’ve scored since 2006. The Hawks defense is bad no doubt about that. If any team is going through any type of offensive slump, playing against the Hawks might be there best idea. On Friday, they gave up two 40-point quarters against the Boston Celtics and followed it up with a defensive performance like this.

Mediocrity and heartbreak. That’s what your life consists of being an Atlanta sports fan, and I’ve lived it for years now. The Atlanta Hawks have been labeled as mediocre for 10 years straight. Even when they were one of the best teams in 2015, they were swept by the Cavaliers in the Conference Finals. The Falcons are nothing different. Mediocre enough to get to the playoffs, and then vulnerable enough to break your hearts at the end. I know you watched the Super Bowl. So as an Atlanta fan you’re either going to get one or the other. It’s sad to say, but I’m numb to it. One day we’ll break this curse, the question is when?
