It has started off as a slow season for the Detroit Red Wings, and the injury to Thomas Vanek, had done the team no favors. Vanek was on day to day, than week to week and has just been put on long term injured reserve. Now that Vanek has been put on LTIR the Red Wings have decided to call up Tyler Bertuzzi from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Bertuzzi, who is the nephew of Wings alumni Todd Bertuzzi (2006-2008) and (2009-2014) has played for the Griffins since April 16, 2015 and he scored a goal with them in his second game. He played 71 games with the Griffins in the 2015-2016 and had 12 goals and 18 assists. He has played in nine games this seasons and has two goals and two assists. This is the first time that Bertuzzi has been called up from the Griffins but he did play in the Preseason. He is reported to have practiced with Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielson.
Bertuzzi brings more then the ability to score. He isn’t afraid to get in the middle of things. He is a young player and was reported to get into a few brawls during training camp and the preseason. He could just be what the Detroit Red Wings need to get them out of the rut they seem to have fallen into.
Bertuzzi will make his NHL debut on October 8 in Philadelphia at 7:00 P.M.
