Tomorrow is the official start of the college football early signing period. The class of 2018 looks like it’s going to be a promising one for mark Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats. Projected to have a top 25 recruiting class coming in Big Blue Nation has a lot to look forward to. Officially signing some of these players could be program changing. Here’s a look at some of the players the Cats are expected to sign, and how they’ll fit into the team.
At 6’3 203 pounds Terry Wilson has a bright future with Kentucky football. Wilson out of Garden City Community College in Kansas City is a do it all quarterback. He has a great feel for the pocket and is also very mobile. With more speed and quickness than Stephen Johnson, trying to stop a option play with Wilson and Benny Snell with be a problem for defenses. Look for Wilson to be in consideration for the starting quarterback spot next season.
In recent years it seems like the Kentucky coaching staff has taken a liking to big cornerbacks in the defensive secondary. It looks like the class of 2018 carries another big corner yet again. Stanley Garner, a four star recruit, out of Florida is ranked in the top 50 cornerbacks in his class in the country. Choosing UK over the likes of Alabama and more importantly Louisville, he brings a lot of talent and size to the secondary. Look for Garner to come in right away and have an immediate impact on defense.
An outside linebacker from Ohio, Peters has the potential to be Kentucky’s next great linebacker. At 6’4 218 pounds, Peters is a hard hitting outside linebacker with tons of potential. Landing him brings a tough anchor for Kentucky’s defense to build around in the coming years. He is widely ranked one of the top 10 outside linebackers in the 2018 class. If the Cats can get Peters to sign tomorrow, he will terrorize SEC offenses for years.
These are only three of the 20 incoming recruits the Cats are bringing in next year. With not many more players expected to commit, Kentucky football still has a bright future. We’ll see who all the Cats get when signing day is officially underway.
