The Georgia football program has a chance on Saturday to win a second consecutive SEC Championship. This year, the opponent is the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama has been the top-ranked team in college football from start to finish this season and is the overwhelming favorite to win this game, but Georgia absolutely can win this game. Here are three keys to victory for the Dawgs on Saturday:

1. Rush for 150+ yards

It’s no secret that Georgia thrives on running the football. In the two worst losses during the Kirby Smart era (2017 Auburn and 2018 LSU), the Dawgs’ running game was nearly non-existent. Georgia will have to stay balanced offensively in this game to beat Alabama but establishing the run is going to be key. Jake Fromm is an amazing talent, but I see no scenario for a Georgia victory if Fromm is having to throw that ball over thirty times in this game. Running the ball effectively in this game will control the clock, the crowd, the atmosphere, and the momentum. It will look like much more of an even playing field if the Dawgs can have a potent rushing attack against that stout Alabama defense.

2. Win the turnover battle

This is usually key in any football game, but it is especially important against Alabama. The Tide love to create turnovers and the team rarely commits any of its own. Georgia hasn’t been great at forcing turnovers on defense this season, but the defensive numbers are still really good. I firmly believe the team that wins the turnover battle will be raising the SEC Championship trophy when the game is over. If the Dawgs can make Tua Tagovailoa make his first crucial mistake or two of the season, then Georgia just might have a chance at pulling this off.

3. Score a touchdown on defense or special teams

Georgia is going to need some things to go its way in this game to make a victory a reality. While points may be few and far between in this game, scoring a touchdown on defense or in the special teams area may be the difference maker that helps the Dawgs finally dethrone Alabama in the SEC. It may come from a trick play or just from an outstanding play on defense. Whatever the case, the extra points can only help. Alabama doesn’t make many mistakes but if Georgia can catch the Tide sleeping and steal six points with a defensive or special teams touchdown, you can bet Alabama will start to get really nervous as this game goes along.
