The NBA Playoffs are in full swing and some former Kentucky Wildcats are doing their thing. John Calipari is one of the best coaches in the country at getting guys ready for the league. That is what he has done and then some. Here is where some of these NBA Cats and their teams stand in the playoffs.
Former Cats John Wall and Jodie Meeks and their Washington Wizards faced the Toronto Raptors in the first round. The Wizards were eliminated in six games by the Raptors last week. Although they were eliminated Wall was a major piece to the Wizards. In the playoffs Wall averaged 26 points a game which led the team. After the season ended Wall said they needed to “add some pieces” in the off season. If Wall can keep playing at a high level the Wizards will be in good hands moving forward.
The New Orleans Pelicans are an organization who loves former Kentucky players. With Anthony Davis, Rajon Rondo, Darius Miller, Demarcus Cousins and Deandre Liggins on the roster Kentucky has a big presence down south. With Cousins hurt Anthony Davis has carried the Pelicans these playoffs. In the first round they swept the Portland Trailblazers and moved on to play the Golden State Warriors. After a loss last night the Pelicans are down 2-0 against the Warriors. Their next game will be Friday night at eight in New Orleans.
Karl-Anthony Towns helped get the Timberwolves back to the playoffs for the first time in years. Towns and the Wolves went against the top seeded Houston Rockets in the first round. The Wolves fell to the Rockets in five games. Although they lost the series they did make history in the playoffs. Their one win against the Rockets was their first playoff win in 14 years. This is just the start of something special that the Wolves are trying to accomplish.
Eric Bledsoe and the Milwaukee Bucks made a solid playoff run. They played the Boston Celtics in the first round and took them seven games. The Bucks came short in game seven losing a tough one on the road. This is just the first year of Bledsoe being paired with the Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. With more time together these two will carry the team further moving forward. We’ll see what other moves the Bucks make this off season.
Patrick Patterson and the Thunder took on the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. Led by the trio Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony they came up short on their expectations. The Thunder fell to the Jazz in six games in the first round. Although they didn’t live up to expectations the team is still in good hands moving forward. Look for Patterson and the Thunder to make a deeper playoff push next season.
Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat took on the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs. The Heat went five games in the series against the Sixers but they wound up losing the series. For a rookie Adebayo got great experience for his first season in the NBA. After his first season he and the young Heat team will only get better. We’ll see how much Bam and the rest of the progress this off season.
Anthony Davis and the Pelicans are the only team left with former Cats on the roster. This goes to show just how John Calipari gets players ready for the NBA. We’ll see who the next former Kentucky players thrive in the league next season.
