Dan Mullen is in the early stages of rebuilding the Florida football program. Early in his tenure, Mullen impressively closed out the 2018 recruiting cycle and revitalized the fan-base’s energy during his inaugural spring practice.

Now, as the 2019 recruiting class begins to heat up, Mullen is orchestrating a new tradition inside The Swamp. This weekend Florida will be hosting their inaugural “Gator Grill Out” in an attempt to lure prioritized prospects from around the country.

In my opinion, this is one truly unique offering in an attempt to bring multiple prized recruits on campus together during the summer. Coaches from around the country are constantly seeking new ideas to one-up the competition. Mullen has a tremendous opportunity this weekend to build his relationships with prospects.

How can potential recruits not enjoy burgers, dogs and other bar-b-que foods while mingling with the Florida staff inside The Swamp? One of Mullen’s focal points early on is creating a family environment while playing for the Gators. Recruits will be able to witness his testament first-hand. Mullen’s outside-the-box thinking may pay off for him when all said and done.

At the moment, Nathan Pickering, Derick Hunter, Chris Steele, Derek Wingo, Dontae Lucas and D.J. Turner are some of the highly-touted prospects expected to be on campus for the grill out. Plenty of other elite prospects will be on campus this weekend and Armchair will update you on Saturday regarding which prospects are on campus.

Among this group of talent, Florida commits Josh Griffis (2020) and Dionte Marks (2019) will be on-hand recruiting alongside the coaching staff. Griffis told Armchair he’s bringing Dontae Lucas (FSU commit) to Gainesville with him.

“My message to him is Florida is a great school and Coach Mullen has a plan to lead Florida back to the top. Florida has the best fans in the nation, but he’s also trying to recruit me to FSU and tells me the same stuff,” Griffis said.

Turner will be committing June 25, so this is a premier opportunity for the Gators to eventually get Turner to commit to Florida.
