Urijah Faber is back in the UFC.

A veteran of 44 mixed martial arts contests, 16 of which came in the UFC, the Featherweight and later Bantamweight contender initially had retired from MMA following the Dec. 17, 2016 UFC on FOX 22 card.

That evening, he scored a victory by unanimous decision against Brad Pickett during the main card on FOX Sports.

The following summer, Faber was enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame as a member of its 2017 class.

In recent years, Faber, who was brought to the UFC after the promotion’s merger with the former World Extreme Cagefighting, has been competing in the grappling promotion Polaris Pro Grappling, based in the United Kingdom.

Last Saturday, Faber headlined the Polaris 10 card against 17-year-old Nicky Ryan, with the latter competitor winning the promotion’s Featherweight title by unanimous decision.

On the Memorial Day holiday, 48 hours removed from Polaris 10, news broke of the former WEC champion’s comeback to MMA.

In an interview with UFC commentator Dan Hardy posted on the Full Reptile YouTube channel on Saturday, Urijah Faber announced that he has returned to mixed martial arts.

“I just realized that my passion is mixed martial arts”, Faber said to Hardy, “and even in retirement, I have the same regimen. I’m in practice every single day. My favorite way to work out is doing jiu-jitsu, so I do jiu-jitsu three days a week hard.”

“I go two hours straight, rolling no problem. My body feels good and I’ve settled a lot of stuff that I needed to slow down to do,” he continued.

In March, Faber became a father when his fiancé gave birth to their daughter.

During the interview, no particulars as to the date and venue of the fight were disclosed, nor was there any mention of Faber’s possible adversary on fight night.

UPDATE: Published reports indicate that Urijah Faber’s comeback fight will be July 13 in Sacramento during UFC on ESPN+ 13.

Best of luck to Urijah Faber in his comeback bid.
