It seems like just yesterday the NHL was crowning a champion. However, now it’s all about Vegas, and for all NHL fans who are not in Pittsburgh or Nashville, this is the best NHL event happening in the month of June. Vegas is set to have an almost full roster by the end of today. While they are already an official team (payment wise), it will become more real in a couple days.

The rest of the NHL rosters are in a freeze period. This means they can make no transactions, except for all interactions with Vegas, which remain acceptable. With Vegas keeping things close to the vest, no one will truly know until after Wednesday what deals Vegas had in place to avoid taking certain players that were unprotected.

So without worrying about potential trades that may have happened, Armchair NHL writers went through the exercise of selecting Vegas. Our selection of players was based around two factors. The first was age and potential, Vegas should want a young and exciting team. The second was to try to field a team that has enough talent to contend for a playoff spot in the Pacific.

One player was selected from each team, with the final tally being 18 forwards, 9 defenseman, and 3 goalies. Vegas’ defense has the potential to be really young with a load of potential. Between Minnesota, Anaheim, and potentially Nate Schmidt, Vegas can stack young defensive talent on their roster.

This collection of forwards is intriguing, in that it consists of a lot of players in or slightly past their prime, with a few youngsters that have potential. The first line in particular, is made up of in their prime offensive players, all from the Central. However, in this collection, our favorite line is the third line, which could instantly become one of the best in all of hockey. Kruger is an underrated Swedish army knife, Bellemare is willing to do the dirty work, and Troy Brouwer could very well be given the captaincy for the inaugural season.

Forwards:

Nashville – James Neal        Dallas – Cody Eakin            STL – David Perron

NJ – Mike Cammalleri     Florida- Jonathan Marchessault      Carolina – Lee Stempniak

Philadelphia – Pierre-Edouard Bellemare   Chicago – Marcus Kruger   Calgary – Troy Brouwer

Vancouver – Reid Boucher     Detroit- Riley Sheahan        Winnipeg – Marko Dano

Goalies:

Also look out for some individual mock drafts. A select few Armchair NHL writers will release their thoughts as to what the Vegas team should and will look like. Keep it tuned here throughout the day as the NHL announces the players representing the Vegas Golden Knights.
