The Boston College baseball team ended the regular season on a loss, but were much improved during the final week of play, winning four of their five games. The Eagles defeated Maine on Tuesday afternoon before taking two of three from Notre Dame to win their second consecutive weekend ACC series, the first time they have done that all season.

The game against Maine was a high-scoring affair in which BC came away victorious by a final score of 19-16. Both team’s bats were held relatively quiet in the first inning, but from that point on the offenses came alive, with 31 total runs being scored between the second and sixth innings. The victory was without a doubt the Eagles’ best offensive performance of the season, with six of the nine players getting multiple hits.

Joe Suozzi was particularly impressive, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs. Chris Galland and Jake Alu also played very well, with both players going 3-for-5 and driving in two runs of their own. Interestingly, this was the highest-scoring game at the new Harrington Athletics Village, BC’s home field.

The first of the three-game series against Notre Dame was a particularly important victory, as it secured the Eagles’ third postseason birth in four years. Thanks to a great final home performance from starting pitcher Dan Metzdorf, BC dominated by a final score of 10-1. The senior lefty went 7 ⅔ innings while allowing only three hits, one run, and accumulating four strikeouts, which landed him at ninth on the Boston College career strikeout list with 184.

The second game of the series was more closely contested, but the Eagles managed to pull out a 9-8 victory. First baseman Jack Cunningham was BC’s star, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

The final game of the regular season was disappointing as the Eagles were beaten 11-5, bringing their record to 29-26, 12-18 in the ACC.

BC is the 12 seed in the ACC tournament and was drawn in Pool A with No. 1 Louisville and No. 8 Clemson. They will face the Tigers on Tuesday at 11 am and the Cardinals on Wednesday at 11 am.

Hey guys, I’m Mike Malley. I’m from Westchester, NY, just north of NYC and have been a sports fan all my life. Despite being from the Big Apple, my sports allegiances are not all to New York teams. I root for the Mets and Rangers, but also am a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Heat. I also love watching soccer, especially my beloved Chelsea in the English Premier League. Now that I’m at Boston College, the Eagles are my number one priority and favorite team. I started writing for the sports section of the school newspaper my freshman year, and am super excited to be joining the Armchair team! Go Eagles!
