The college football season is almost underway, and the ACC converged on Charlotte last week for the ACC Kickoff. At the Kickoff, 173 media members were polled, and they concluded that Boston College would finish fifth in the ACC Atlantic this season.

These media members also voted on who they believe will win the ACC championship, with Clemson far and away the favorites, receiving 170 votes, while Syracuse received two and Virginia received one.

Seeing as they are the overwhelming favorites to win the entire ACC, it is unsurprising that Clemson was also picked to reign over the Atlantic as well. Syracuse was predicted to come in second, with Florida State behind them, followed by NC State, BC, Wake Forest, and Louisville, in that order.

Clemson, who dominated Alabama in the national championship last year by a final score of 44-16, is deserving of being the heavy favorites in the conference, and possibly even the nation. However, the rest of the predicted standings are questionable.

Syracuse is a popular dark horse pick in the ACC this season, with quarterback Tommy DeVito receiving much praise after his brief, yet effective appearances last season. Additionally, their defense was spectacular, finishing second in the conference in both sacks and interceptions, as well as finishing in the top half in scoring defense.

The rest of the division appears to be up for grabs, with Florida State, NC State, and BC all receiving a similar number of votes. It is perplexing that the media is so high on the Seminoles, considering how bad they played last season, finishing second-to-last in the division. NC State and Boston College are both schools that showed flashes of promise, something that Florida State never did.

Realistically, Clemson is the best team in the conference and will continue to be, as long as Trevor Lawrence is under center. The rest of the conference will have to seriously over-deliver if Clemson is to be caught, but the ACC will undoubtedly be an exciting conference full of close games this upcoming season.

Hey guys, I’m Mike Malley. I’m from Westchester, NY, just north of NYC and have been a sports fan all my life. Despite being from the Big Apple, my sports allegiances are not all to New York teams. I root for the Mets and Rangers, but also am a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Heat. I also love watching soccer, especially my beloved Chelsea in the English Premier League. Now that I’m at Boston College, the Eagles are my number one priority and favorite team. I started writing for the sports section of the school newspaper my freshman year, and am super excited to be joining the Armchair team! Go Eagles!
