The Boston College men’s basketball team’s week started off great, but came to a disappointing end after winning their game on Wednesday against Louisville, but lost on Sunday evening to Georgia Tech. These results brought the team’s record to 14-14 overall and 5-11 in the ACC.

The 66-59 win over Louisville was unexpected considering how well the Cardinals have played this season, but a special performance from Ky Bowman lifted the Eagles. Bowman put the team on his back, as he has done many other times previously, and scored 25 points and 12 rebounds, as well as eight assists, in what was undoubtedly his most well-rounded game of the season.

Nik Popovic was the only other player to score in double figures, as he finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Neither team shot the ball particularly well, neither reached the 40 percent mark, and BC was out-rebounded heavily, but sometimes having a star player is all that is needed to pull out a conference upset. Additionally, the Eagles forced 14 turnovers, and this stingy defense contributed heavily greatly as well.

The second game of the week was an extremely close affair, with BC falling in double overtime by a final score of 81-78. The teams were nearly identical in every statistical category, except for one, three-point shooting, in which the Eagles were outmatched 32 percent to only 18 percent.

BC had a great chance to tie the game and send it into triple OT, but Bowman’s shot took a tough bounce off of the rim and fell into the arms of a Yellow Jackets forward as time expired. However, Nik Popovic turned in another great performance, scoring 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds as well.

Popovic has been an unexpected positive this season, undoubtedly having his best year at BC. His production has grown steadily since his freshman year, with his point, rebound, and field goal numbers improving each season. The Bosnian big man is averaging nearly 14 points per game and just over seven rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the field. With Ky Bowman likely leaving for the NBA next season, Popovic will be a great player to keep on the roster to contribute when future stars are having off nights.

I root for the Mets and Rangers, but also am a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Heat. I also love watching soccer, especially my beloved Chelsea in the English Premier League. Now that I’m at Boston College, the Eagles are my number one priority and favorite team. I started writing for the sports section of the school newspaper my freshman year, and am super excited to be joining the Armchair team! Go Eagles!
