The PC Gaming Show at E3 2018 was quite the rush. Coming in at just under two hours, it was packed to the brim with trailers and developer conversations for both games currently released and new games coming in the next year or two.

Satisfactory

Developer: Coffee Stain
Release Date: TBD

Satisfactory is a neat 1st-person factory simulation game. The game itself takes place in a 30 sq. km area where the player will need to harvest resources to create a factory they’ve only dreamed about.

In an even better bit of news, Coffee Stain announced that the game would support co-op situations with up to four players.

Neo Cab

Developer: Chance Agency
Release Date: Feb. 5, 2019

Neo Cab does not look to be much more than a dialog simulator with some interesting consequences and reveals. Still, this game has been getting rave reviews from almost everyone who has had a glimpse of it.

Neo Cab is a great reminder that great games don’t all have to fit into the same mold. Some of them can be about a cab driver in a dystopia with conspiracy-levels of intrigue.

Maverick: Proving Ground

Developer: Automaton Games
Release Date: Dec. 2018

Maverick: Proving Ground is yet another battle royale game. Everyone and their mother seems to be jumping at the chance to get into the genre. Most of these games will flop right on their face.

Only time will tell if Maverick will stand a chance, but Automaton does have a distinguishing feature that should allow them to have a shot. There can be up to 1,000 players on a map at any given time. Of course, this can also be a curse if there aren’t 1,000 people playing simultaneously.

The Forgotten City

Developer: Modern Storyteller
Release Date: 2019

The Forgotten City is the official release of a stand-alone game that started as a Skyrim mod. There’s time travel. There’s a murder mystery. Who knows what else is in the game?

Even if you’ve already played the mod, there are boatloads of new content available only in the official game. From a new city to new characters, there is enough new content to keep even the biggest fans of the mod coming back for more.

Star Control: Origins

Developer: Stardock
Release Date: Sept 20, 2018

Star Control: Origins is a massive game filled with thousands of planets. The universe is fully consistent. In other words, the game simulates what’s going on throughout the universe in real time compared to procedural generation based on when you come to a planet. In addition, you can land on each planet.

The coolest part of this action RPG is the last bit of news they spilled at the conference. The game is fully moddable, allowing people to create their own ships, planets and galaxies. It also allows people to package up those creations and distribute them to other players.

Finally, Star Control: Origins has a multiplayer component called Fleet Battles. These fleet battles are spaceship battles, allowing people to go after their friend’s and  make use of both local and online multiplayer.

Hunt: Showdown

Developer: Crytek
Release Date: Available in Early Access now, release date TBD

Hunt: Showdown is one of the games to create a trailer for their next patch. The game itself is a PvP game with a few elements of PvE scattered around the map. The new update will allow for sticky grenades while also adding a few other new features.

The Sinking City

Developer: Frogwares
Release Date: TBD

From the hands of the team that has made some great Sherlock games comes The Sinking City. The game is a Lovecraftian investigation game with an in-depth story and decisions that really matter. The trailer is flat-out creepy.

While the game isn’t about fighting monsters, there will still be some self-defense combat while trying to solve mysteries.

Warframe: The Sacrifice

Yakuza 0

Developer: Sega
Release Date: Aug. 1, 2018

Yakuza 0 isn’t a new game, but it’ll be new to PC on Aug. 1. This comes as Sega is honoring their commitment to adding most of their back catalog to PC. They will start with 0, move onto Yakuza Kiwami next and will even add Valkyria Chronicles 4 among other titles.

Killing Floor 2

Developer: Tripwire
Release Date: June 12, 2018

Killing Floor 2 is getting four major updates in 2018, and the second one, Summer Sideshow: Treacherous Skies, drops on June 12, 2018. This update will be adding a weapon update system that can make every weapon viable in late-game play.

Man Eater

Developer: Blindside Interactive

Man Eater allows you to control a shark and eat some people. The action RPG will feature skill trees for the shark and a full single-player campaign. The skill tree gives you things like sharper teeth, jumping abilities and more.

Overwhelm

Developer: Ruari O’Sullivan
Release Date: June 11, 2018

Overwhelm is a 2D Metroidvania style game published by Untitled Publisher that appears to be all about squishing bugs. While that sounds like it might be funny, Overwhelm is serious. The skill level looks high, which will be perfect for people who like this sort of game.

Jurassic World Evolution

Developer: Frontier
Release Date: June 12, 2018

Jeff Goldblum made an appearance, narrating the entire trailer. He warned of the dangers of creating a park filled with dinosaurs, and the trailer itself showed hints of what can happen if the dinosaurs escape. The game is to Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs what Planet Coaster is to Rollercoaster Tycoon. In other words, it should scratch that nostalgic itch in a wonderful way.

Stormland

Developer: Insomniac Games
Release Date: TBD

Insomniac has created a new world in Stormland. A malevolent force has invaded the world, badly damaging an android gardener while also destroying all of his hard work. After exploring a little bit, the android realizes it isn’t the only robot this force has hurt.

The android uses his cool robot powers and gear he finds throughout the world to save his friends and eventually go after the evil force.

Stormland is an open-world VR game on Oculus Rift that looks like a full-fledged game. VR needs experiences like this to continue growing.

Night Call

Developer: MonkeyMoon Studio, BlackMuffin Studio

Sable

Developer: Shedworks
Release Date: 2019

Sable is an open world exploration game with a crazy art style. The game, based in a desert, looks like a cross between a comic book and a coloring book. The wonderful coloring makes the game pop. We’re not sure what there all is to do in the game, and ‘exploration’ can often be a tag for boring, but Sable will at least be pretty while being boring. Oh, and there’s a podracer, so this one looks like a must-play.

Star Citizen

Developer: Cloud Imperium Games
Release Date: TBD

Alpha 3.2 will be coming soon to a Steam client near you. The game itself will eventually release, but for now, we’ll all have to enjoy the Alpha. On the plus side, the trailer is very pretty and the game is gorgeous.

Genesis Alpha One

Developer: Team17
Release Date: Sept. 4, 2018

Genesis Alpha One takes a few different genres and smashes them together … in space. You’ve got a touch of a roguelike shooter, a bit of a tower defense/base builder and a dollop of survival all mixed into the game. Oh, and on the side, Team17 threw in a bit of genetic splicing fun.

There will be a lot going on in Genesis Alpha One, and there will certainly be some terrifying aliens plus some awesome weapons. If stressful management sims and/or shooters are your thing, check this one out.

Don’t Starve: Hamlet

Developer: Klei Entertainment
Release Date: Dec. 2018

Don’t Starve: Hamlet is the latest expansion of the Don’t Starve franchise. This is a single player expansion and takes place somewhere in a tropical jungle. Wilson, our protagonist, finds a little town of Pigmen in said town and gets reacquainted to city life. Of course, there are also the ancient pig ruins for the treasure hunter inside of Wilson.

Just Cause 4

Developer: Avalanche Studios
Release Date: Dec. 4, 2018

We’ve seen a lot of Just Cause 4 already, but Avalanche wanted to give PC gamers what they really crave: an Apex engine trailer. Avalanche showed off the buff new engine, displaying multiple extreme weather forces, culminating in a fully physical tornado.

In other words, Just Cause 4 will feature a tornado that actually impacts the world in the way a tornado in the real world would impact, say, a barn. It’s really an incredible feat for an engine to accomplish. You’ll probably have to beef up your rig to make it run all the way up, though.

The Walking Dead

Developer: Overkill
Release Date: Nov. 6, 2018

This is not one of The Walking Dead games we’ve seen before. Rather than a story-intense game from Telltale, Overkill is making a co-op shooter in the world of The Walking Dead. It’ll be jam-packed with action and violence, just like a good zombie game should be.

The Walking Dead: The Final Chapter

Developer: Telltale
Release Date: Aug. 14, 2018

Immediately after showing us Overkill’s The Walking Dead game, Telltale came out on stage to tell us why we should still buy their version. First, it’s the last one, so we’ll finally get the conclusion to a game that has spanned years. Second, Telltale is mixing it up a little bit. They have added some unscripted combat to the game. It’s still essentially a quick time event, but it’s not nearly as forced as the story-reliant quick time events. It’s a nice change, even if just to keep things fresh.

Noita

Developer: Nolla Games
Release Date: TBD

Noita, the Finnish word for Witch, is a brilliant little game. On the surface, it looks like a roguelike dungeon crawler. It still is, even when you dig deep. It’s also so much more. In Noita, each pixel is simulated, a fact they state often.

What does that mean? Well, each and every pixel on the screen can react independently. Is there a puddle of oil? Well, you can light it on fire and the fire will spread from pixel to pixel. Bombs cause dirt and other things to fly up in the air. I can already see the science fair projects popping up from that one kid who forgot until the night before.

Two Point Hospital

Developer: Two Point Studios
Release Date: 2018

Have you ever wanted to lighten up the doom and gloom of a hospital with slapstick comedy and animated shenanigans? Well, this game might be for you. Two Point Hospital is a typical simulation game, allowing players to build their own hospitals from square one. Where it differs is the diseases are things like Turtle Head Syndrome, which is cured with an anti-gravity rig and a plunger.

Realm Royale

Developer: Hi-Rez Studios
Release Date: June 5, 2018

Another battle royale game with its own unique twist joins the fray. Realm Royale, the BR mode from the chaser of trends studio, Hi-Rez. Hi-Rez is the studio behind Smite, chasing the MOBA genre, and Paladins, chasing the hero shooters genre. Of course, Smite and Paladins are both great games, so it’s not to say that Realm Royale will be bad.

In fact, Real Royale has some interesting quirks. First, they have crafting in the game. One player can start crafting some fancy armor, and the rest of the players are alerted by a smoke column, leading to fun skirmishes. The game also has classes, allowing players to be pointed in the direction they prefer before the game starts. The final twist is in addition to looting items, players will also loot abilities, allowing for some really cool plays.

The trailer is essentially just marketing as the game is already live and doing very well on Steam charts. On the plus side, if you were intrigued by the trailer, you can play today!

Ooblets

Developer: Glumberland
Release Date: 2018

Ooblets is adorable. The game, at its heart, is a creature-collecting adventure with some farming simulation mechanics included. In the trailer we got in the show, however, we also witnessed an Ooblets dance-off. It was incredible.

Ooblets is the type of game that captivated both me and my 3-month-old daughter the entire time it was on the screen. My one question? Why are everyone’s heads so heavy that they have to run like that?

Anno 1800

Developer: Ubisoft Blue Byte
Release Date: 2018

Ubisoft Blue Byte is creating the latest installment in the city builder/strategy Anno series. In Anno 1800, the majority of the game takes place along the shore. The combat is all naval combat and the cities are right along the edges of the water.

The developer also announced Anno Union, a direct-feedback community where the developers get ideas and feedback directly from strategy game fans. They couldn’t provide specifics as to what, if anything, had been changed as a direct result of the program, but Ubisoft Blue Byte did say that the feedback had certainly impacted the way the game feels and the way the game plays.

Rapture Rejects

Developer: Galvanic Games, Explosm Games
Release Date: 2018

Everyone is really jumping into the battle royale genre, including the folks who make the comics at Cyanide and Happiness. Their take on the genre is an isometric shooter, meaning the game is 2.5D. While the gameplay may not be quite as exciting as some of the other titles in the genre, the humor will likely make the game a hit in the streaming community.

Hitman 2

Developer: IO Interactive
Release Date: Nov. 13, 2018

Hitman 2 was announced last week, but the PC Gaming show got a bit of the action with a new trailer detailing the Miami level. There were all the things that make a Hitman game great including creative assassinations and absurd costumes.
