VIKINGS KEY PLAYER: STEFON DIGGS

Stefon Diggs has been an inconsistent force for the Minnesota Vikings the first three games of the season. This past week, Diggs exploited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. He tallied eight receptions for 173 yards and two touchdowns. In comparison, Diggs only saw two receptions for a mere 27 yards in Week Two against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Depending on which version of Stefon Diggs shows up on Sunday will play vital in the Vikings’ success.

LIONS KEY PLAYER: AMEER ABDULLAH

The Detroit Lions were keen to have Ameer Abdullah back this year after he missed a majority of last season due to injury. Unfortunately, Abdullah has been anything but impressive. He has totaled 46 carries in the first three matchups, rushing for a trifling 163 yards all together. Abdullah is yet to reach the end zone this year. While Detroit was hoping to have an effective run game right from the get-go, there is still time to turn things around, and that can start Sunday with Abdullah.

GAME PREVIEW AND ANALYSIS

The NFC North has proven to be one of the toughest and best divisions inside the NFL. The Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings headline the division, with the Green Bay Packers right behind them.

While the Vikings clearly foster the superior defense, the Lions offense is much more stable. Matthew Stafford has been leading Detroit since 2009 and has demonstrated much success with Golden Tate and Marvin Jones Jr.

The Vikings on the other hand are running with third-string quarterback Case Keenum. Teddy Bridgewater has not returned to 100 percent since entering the league and replacement Sam Bradford is currently out with an injury.

Keenum outperformed expectations last week against Tampa Bay, passing for 369 yards and three touchdowns. The Buccaneers defense looked to be out of sorts the entire game, allowing Keenum and the rest of the offense to take advantage.

This will be Detroit’s first divisional matchup of the season. Whoever ends up on top in this one will prove to be the number one team within the NFC North going into Week Four.

Expect a close battle between the two rivals. Only one can come out victorious at the end the day. Who will falter and who will rise?

Originally from Michigan, I now reside in the sunshine state. I am a freshman at the University of Tampa majoring in sports journalism and sports have been an integral part of my life since my first steps. Up until third grade, sports were just a thing that I played. In third grade, I was introduced to the idea of storytelling. For my assignment I was supposed to write a one page story on anything I wanted. Instead, I wrote a chapter book about a baseball game. It was at that moment that I knew what I wanted to be when I grow up. Mixing sports and writing for me was a perfect match and I have been doing it ever since. Even though I now live in Florida, Michigan sports are where my heart is. The Detroit Lions, while tough to watch at times, are the only thing that gets me excited on Sunday’s. If you’re as passionate about the Lions as I am, sit back, relax, and take a seat.
