Key Player of the Game: Jamal Agnew
Jamal Agnew, a cornerback and returner, helped seal the victory for Detroit Monday night. He returned 3 punts for an average of 33 yards per return, taking one 88 yards for a touchdown. The Lions are not special teams specialists, so any time a returner has a big game, he stands out amongst the rest. Jamal Agnew helped put the Giants away with a gut-wrenching return that sucked the air right out of the Meadowlands.
GAME RECAP AND ANALYSIS
The Detroit Lions took care of business on the road Monday night against the Giants, getting the win by a score of 24-10. Unlike last week, Detroit started playing well in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Giants started off the second quarter with a quick touchdown off an Eli Manning 18 yard pass to Evan Engram for an early seven points.
After an interesting exchange that saw a Lions fumble, directly followed by an interception from Manning, ended with a seven yard touchdown pass to Eric Ebron. The next Lions score came from Matt Prater on a 56 yard circus field goal near the end of the first half.
After a turnover on downs for New York, Jamal Agnew returned the punt 88 yards for a touchdown. Agnew’s return was the last score for both teams, a reassuring nail in the coffin return.
The Detroit Lions defense flourished, totaling five sacks on the night. Manning struggled to get anything going due to his poor offensive line production.
The Detroit Lions head back to Ford Field next week to take on the defending NFC Conference Champions, the Atlanta Falcons. Matthew Stafford and company will look to take down Matt Ryan and the rest of the Atlanta Falcons in a marquee matchup.
