Another last-second field goal handed Purdue its third loss of the season, this time to Missouri. Deja vu again for this team that can’t catch a break. Three straight loses decided by four points or less has the team hanging on to bowl hopes.

The deciding factor has been the defense and its blunders during late-game situations. Against Eastern Michigan, it was an unnecessary roughness call, and on Saturday it was end-game fatigue.

David Blough Breaks Purdue Passing Record

An upside to the loss was quarterback David Blough’s record breaking performance. He threw for 572 yards on 39 of 55 passing. He had three touchdowns in addition to that. This broke the record for most passing yards in Purdue football history.

True freshman Rondale Moore also showed up in the loss. He reeled in 11 receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t enough for the Boilermakers, as the defense gave up 608 yards to Missouri.

A Rough Start to the Season

An 0-3 situation like this is never what a team wants to see itself faced with. Luckily, the true battle comes with the second half of the season. It will be against teams like Wisconsin and Ohio State where Purdue needs to keep its composure.

The Big Ten conference is looking solid again and the team needs to take its schedule one game at a time. If Purdue wants to remain bowl eligible, then it desperately needs a win against No. 23 ranked Boston College.
