Before we get started, let’s make a quick clarification on PFL 2 from last Thursday evening:
Although the Efrain Escudero vs. Jason High match took place on the main card as scheduled, it was not the co-main event on the card. Brian Foster vs. Ramsey Nijem was the co-main event on the card.
Onward to today’s topic.
It was a night where no scorecard was factored into the decision of any fight in last week’s episode of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
All five fights last Tuesday evening ended in stoppages. In all, Dana White awarded four contracts to the UFC in the episode, a record for most contracts awarded in a single episode of the program.
Dwight Grant, Ryan Spann, Anthony Hernandez, and Matt Sayles all received deals on Tuesday.
This week brings the last new episode of the Contender Series before the July 3 off week and 10 more MMA free agents trying to score a UFC contract.
Highlighting week three of season two is a Women’s Flyweight match between Antonina “The Panther” Shevchenko (5-0-0) (Valentina Shevchenko’s older sister) and Jaimee “Queenie” Nievera (7-3-0).
Shevchenko has won all of her professional MMA contests, four by decision and one by knockout. Her most recent victory came last December vs. Valerie Domergue by decision in Phoenix FC 4.
In the other corner, Nievera has gone 3-2 in her last five matches, the most recent win coming on June 8 in LFA 42 vs. Katy Collins by decision.
Given Shevchenko’s record in professional MMA and the fact that she has a sister in UFC, I like her chances on Tuesday. Shevchenko by knockout.
Four other fights will take place on Tuesday:
Austin “The Flash” Tweedy (8-1-0) vs. Te “Tango” Edwards (4-1-0)in a Lightweight match
Greg “Ribz” Rebello (22-7-0) vs. Josh Parisian (6-2-0) [replacement for Angel DeAnda, who was himself a replacement for Oscar “Elevation” Cota] in a Heavyweight contest
Jamall “Pretty Boy” Emmers (13-3-0) vs. Julian “Juicy J” Erosa (15-4-0) in a Welterweight match, and
Tim “The Bear” Caron (7-1-0) vs. Jordan Williams (7-2-0, a replacement for Andrew Todhunter) in a Middleweight contest.
