Cal State Fullerton Titans
The Purdue Boilermakers opened the NCAA Tournament in convincing fashion, picking up a 74-48 victory over the Cal State Fullerton Titans. After only leading by 9 at the half, the Boilermakers ran away from the Titans with a dominant second half.
Sophomore guard Carsen Edwards and senior forward Vincent Edwards led all Boilermakers in scoring, with each scoring 15 points. The Edwards duo has played large for the Boilermakers all season, and their opening performances of the tournament show they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. The Boilermakers shot for an impressive 41% from beyond the arc, going 9-22. The Boilermakers also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Titans 41-28.
For the Titans, junior guard Kyle Allman led all scorers with 21 points. Led by Allman, the Titans were able to keep pace with the Boilermakers in the opening moments, but couldn’t keep up for 40 minutes.
After a dominating victory, the Boilermakers will await the winner of this afternoons matchup between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Butler Bulldogs. With one win down, the Boilermakers will look to continue to run through the East region.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Purdue senior forward Vincent Edwards efforts today calls for him being named the player of the game. Edwards connected on 50% of his shots, contributing to his 15 points. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward also reeled down 7 boards, helping the Boilermakers outrebound the Titans by a margin of 10. Edwards also showcased his outside game, drilling two three-pointers.
