On Saturday the Clemson Tigers hosted Auburn in a top-15 showdown. While most of the talk was surrounding Clemson’s Kelly Bryant and how he would handle his first test as a starting quarterback, the Tigers quietly hosted some of the nation’s best high school athletes in what turned out to be a momentous recruiting event.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers hosted over 40 prospects across different classes. Some of the most notable prospects in attendance were 5-star wide receiver Justyn Ross and 5-star defensive end K.J Henry for the 2018 class, as well as 5-star defensive end Nolan Smith and 5-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood for the 2019 class.

Two of the top five quarterbacks in the 2019 class were also in the Valley – Bo Nix (#2 dual-threat QB) and Sam Howell (#5 pro-style QB). According to 247Sports, Nix is currently predicted to sign with the Tigers that Clemson beat 14-6 on Saturday.

Clemson fans also got to see 2018 commits 5-star Trevor Lawrence (#1 QB and overall player), 5-star Xavier Thomas (#1 DE and #5 overall player) as well as Mike Jones, Kyler McMichael, Braden Galloway, Josh Belk, Jake Venables and BT Potter.

While most of the prospects predicted a Clemson Tiger victory, a lot of the recruits enjoyed their time in Tiger Town, with many telling sources the crowd’s energy and Death Valley at night was a sight to see.

Some of the quotes from Saturday’s prospects:

“The game and the atmosphere was great, I loved every second of it. The fans also loved all the recruits. It was a great experience.” – 5-star wide receiver Justyn Ross

“One of the best environments I’ve been in. The new facilities are the best I’ve seen.” – 4-star cornerback Jaylin Simpson

“The fans are awesome every time I’m there. It’s just different at Clemson. Clemson is just a fun place, and the game was really fun.” – 5-star quarterback Sam Howell

Overall, it was a successful night in the Valley. The Tigers moved to 2-0, passed their first major test as a team, answered some questions about whether they are a legit national title contender and impressed some high caliber recruits that, if signed, will continue the winning tradition at Clemson for seasons to come.

It truly was a good day to be a Clemson Tiger.

Growing up in South Carolina, you were one of two things, a Gamecock fan or a Clemson fan. I had the luck of having smart parents who gave me my first Clemson jersey when I was 7. Ever since, my interest in Clemson football has never ceased. Some say it’s an unhealthy obsession, I say “ Hey bud, shut the hell up I’m watching the 2003 Clemson vs Georgia Tech game to see how we can win in Atlanta again.” I know I can’t control the outcome of a game but hey, we finally won in Atlanta after I watched the game, so you tell me. After this year, I will be transferring up to Clemson where I can constantly fuel my “addiction” while studying to be a broadcast journalist.
