Game 1: Zach Davies vs. Carlos Martinez
The St. Louis Cardinals jumped out to an early lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the first game of the series at Miller Park. The Cardinals went up 3-1 after six and a half innings scoring one each in the top of the fourth, fifth, and seventh. They went on to score two more in the eighth and one in the ninth to reach six for the game. The Brewers scored one in the sixth and four in the seventh to score their five.
Zach Davies had a decent night, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, and fanning nine over six and one-third innings. Carlos Martinez sacrificed four hits, one earned run, and struck out thirteen over six innings pitched.
Player of the Game: Kolten Wong was the player of the game going two for four with a home run, two RBI, and a stolen base to receive the Player of the Game honors for game number one.
Game 1 Result: Cardinals Win, 6-5.
Game 2: Wily Peralta vs. Adam Wainwright
The Brewers and Cardinals each scored a single run in the sixth inning in what turned out to be a pitching duel on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. The Cardinals eventually went on to score in the top of the tenth when Randal Grichuk drove in the winning run. After loading the bases in the bottom of the tenth, the Brewers were unable to capitalize and went on to lose game two.
Wily Peralta pitched a gem for the Brewers, but the offense struggled and was unable to help him out. Peralta seven innings, sacrificing three hits, one earned run and striking out ten Cardinals, earning no decision. Adam Wainwright also pitched very well giving up one earned on three hits, striking out seven over seven innings pitched, also without earning a decision.
Player of the Game: Randal Grichuk went one for four with a single in the top of the tenth, knocking in the game-winning RBI to be named the Player of the Game in Game 2 of the series.
Game 2 Result: Cardinals Win, 2-1.
Game 3: Luke Weaver vs. Matt Garza
Luke Weaver pitched well, but it was not enough and the Brewers took advantage of that. The Crew scored three in the bottom of the third and that was all they needed to secure the win 3-1. The Cardinals scored their lone run in the top of the fourth. They threatened in the top of the eighth, loading the bases before Carlos Torres put away the Cardinals and helped to secure the win.
Matt Garza had a very good start, sacrificing one run on three hits and striking out eight in seven plus innings pitched. Garza recorded the win for the Crew. Luke Weaver went six innings, sacrificing three earned runs on four hits with two walks and ten strikeouts. Weaver got the loss and is now 1-2 on the year.
Player of the Game: Kirk Nieuwenhuis went two for four with a three-run home run, one run scored, and three RBI to be named Player of the Game for Game 3.
Game 3 Result: Brewers steal one, 3-1.
