With less than 20 games left in the season, you can say that the Atlanta Hawks have exceeded expectations. With a young roster and a new head coach, many thought this would be a tough year for the team, but the organization will tell you otherwise. The young players are developing faster than expected, and coach Lloyd Pierce has the team playing with fire. With two potential top-10 draft picks and cap flexibility, the Hawks future is looking bright. A report earlier in the week from Sam Amick stated that the Hawks will try to get meetings with some of the top free agents this offseason. Could the Hawks really sell some of the best in the game to come to Atlanta?
Fast developing young core
The Hawks young core is growing up fast. Kevin Huerter has found himself in the starting lineup and is playing well on both sides of the floor. He’s one of the top rookies in 3-point percentage, which is a big reason why the Hawks drafted him. John Collins has shown flashes of being a future All-Star with his play. He’s showed major improvements in his game from his rookie season and has been a nice compliment to Trae Young.
Young of course has put the league on notice already, especially in the month of February. Young has made his teammates better and it looks like the game is coming to him more easily. The development and potential of these players could intrigue a free agent ready to build and win in the near future.
A new look in Atlanta
Atlanta has continued to catch the attention of many people with their renovations. With a new training facility and refurbished arena, both players and fans will be intrigued. The fans have been steadily growing with the play of the Hawks and the new activities in the arena. A barbershop, top golf, and a stand-up bar on floor of the arena makes things even more appealing. This may not mean anything to a free agent, but a new look in the ATL is something that the organization will try to sell to anybody.
How did the Warriors sell Kevin Durant in 2016? They let him know that it’s equal opportunity for everybody, and he won’t have to worry about carrying the offense. Some players like the ball in their hands, and others like when the ball is moving around. The Hawks player the latter, and would be a nice way to get a big free agent to come play for Atlanta. When you have a player like Trae Young who is all about getting his teammates open, he’ll make life easier for anybody. Just ask John Collins.
