Bundesliga Sunday Recap
The sixth matchday of the Bundesliga came to a close on Sunday with two matches. Both contests were polar opposites, as one ended in a stalemate, and the other finished in a rout.
VFL Wolfsburg vs. FSV Mainz 05
These two mid-table clubs were unable to displace each other as the match finished 0-0. Both goalkeepers played fairly decent and produced some fine saves throughout the match, and deservedly came away with clean sheets. The best opportunity of the match fell to Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler in the second half, as he rounded the keeper and was in behind, but the outstretched leg of Giulio Donati kept out his ensuing attempt on net.
FC Schalke 04 vs. Borussia Monchengladbach
Four second half goals gave Schalke a comfortable 4-0 win over Monchengladbach in the final match of the day.
The first goal of the match was scored in the 52nd minute when Eric Choupo-Moting scored from the spot. In the following six minutes, the home side would see their advantage increase to 3-0. Breel Embolo scored in the 56th minute and Leon Goretzka in the 58th minute.
Embolo would finish the scoring off in the 83rd minute with his second of the match.
