The New York Yankees were playing their best baseball of the season on their west coast road trip last week, winning seven of nine games on the road before returning home. With the return to the Bronx came some good news for us Yankee fans. Miguel Andujar returned to the lineup, as well as DJ Lemahieu and Clint Frazier.
The Bronx Bombers welcomed the Twins and the Mariners to Yankee Stadium this week, and handled business the way we would hope. Two out of three against the Twins, and three of four against the Mariners have the Yankees sitting at 22-15, just 1.5 GB of the Rays in the AL East.
Gary Sanchez hit 3 HR’s against the Twins, bringing his total to 11 on the year. 2019 is looking more and more like 2017 for the Yankee catcher.
Gary Sanchez is now tied for the AL lead in home runs.
Domingo German picked up his league-leading 6th victory of the season against the Twins and has been a real bright spot for New York.
The bats stayed hot against the Mariners. In the opening game of the series, the Bombers jumped all over King Felix, while Luke Voit has continued to be a fan favorite in the Bronx. He got the party started with a 2-run HR against Hernandez, his 10th of the year.
Luke Voit is a threat every time he comes to the plate.
Game 2 saw the Yankees down 2-1 in the 7th inning as they entered a rain-delay. After a couple 8th inning runs by Seattle, we saw some 9th inning magic in the Bronx.
After dropping the 3rd game, J.A. Happ delivered his best start of the season, throwing 5 shutout innings only allowing 1 hit.
The Yankees will be seeing a lot of Tampa Bay and Baltimore in the next few weeks. This weekend features an early season AL East battle for first, when the Yankees hit Tropicana Field for the first time in 2019, a place that caused them a lot of trouble a year ago.
