New York Red Bulls. Bradley Wright-Phillips. Goals.
At this point, those three things are mutually necessary with one another. In the past week, Bradley Wright-Phillips has become the fastest player in MLS history to score 100 goals. He also has probably cemented his place as quite possibly the greatest MLS player of all-time (but that’s for a different piece). Here’s a look at what I think are his top five goals.
#5- Goal 100 vs D.C. United
Everything about this goal is quintessential BWP. The burst through the middle, the cut to create space from the defender. Sure, maybe the goalie should have saved it, but it was a deserved 100th goal. The celebration also had an unreal amount of sauce added to it.
#4- Goal 6 vs Columbus Crew
The first-touch. The calm finish on the volley. Not really much more that needs to be said.
#3 Goal vs Chicago Fire
Another cross into the box, another BWP goal. This one coming off the half-volley which left the goalkeeper completely helpless.
#2 Goal vs Sporting Kansas City
For some this might just be a normal header, but I was there at the stadium when this went in and this goal will always hold a special place in my heart. A play-off match, and BWP finds the winner in the 89th minute. Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
#1 Goal vs Blue Team
A heated rivalry game, and BWP pulls an overhead kick versus that blue team across the river. Pure class.
