Wizards fall to 0-2 at the hands of a Raptors lineup without Kawhi Leonard.

Washington Wizards start 0-2, Bradley Beal sets a record and still no Dwight Howard sums up the game against the Toronto Raptors. And Kawhi Leonard was out due to rest which makes the loss even worse.

To top it off, this loss comes off another closing seconds dagger, this time from Fred VanVleet who recovered a loose ball making the off-balance shot to push the lead to 115-111.

There was some joy in Saturday night’s contest, though. Bradley Beal surpassed the all-time franchise record for three-pointers made, previously held by Gilbert Arenas with 869. Beal had 32 points, three rebounds and six assists, going 6 of 11 from three-point range. Arenas congratulated Beal via NBC Sports Washington’s Chris Miller through text message.

“What’s the playbook for when someone breaks your record? You just say ‘congratulations,’ right? OR do u challenge them to a shooting contest for rights? Haha,” Arenas wrote. “Congrats to Bradley on the record — you’re a great shooter and a great player. Enjoy your night, brother.”

Washington has been struggling with fouls…or more so the refs the entire game. John Wall (25pts, 4reb, 6ast, 4stl) and Ian Mahinmi had four personal fouls, while Beal had five fouls total, one being a technical. Head coach Scott Brooks was ejected with seven minutes left in the game after proceeding to go after the refs on a controversial call.

And there were plenty of eyebrow-raising calls in this game.

Washington’s bench has not caught on to the fact they’re supposed to keep the momentum going while the starters rest. Austin Rivers was the only reserve in double figures with 12 points. Overall the bench shot 11 of 34 (32 %). Yes, it’s early with only two games played, but at what point will Brooks try out rookie Troy Brown Jr. and Thomas Bryant? Bryant can definitely be utilized in the five position if there’s no exact date for the return of Howard.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., sports has always been a topic of conversation, predominately because our city hasn’t had a championship parade in a very long time. Luckily, I’m only a fan of three teams in the area: Wizards, Capitals, and Mystics. To add on to my list of fandom are the Baltimore Orioles and THE 5X Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots. My all-time favorite sports are tennis, football, and field hockey. Weird huh? I can debate about Serena Williams for hours….and hours….and hours because I was raised on watching her back when she and her sister Venus had the beads in their hair and there is no one even close to being better. PS4 is my poison of choice and I can play MLB The Show for 2-4 hour a day. No judging. All my Mystics, Washington Valor, and tennis writing can be found at Fox Sports 1340AM Radio.
