Last May, Michael Bisping, who hadn’t fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship since UFC Fight Night Shanghai in late November of 2017, decided to end his career as a competitor.
His final fight in the UFC ended in a loss in that night’s main event to Kelvin Gastelum.
In announcing his retirement, Bisping took to his own Believe You Me podcast and said:
“It ain’t worth it. What else am I going to do? I won the belt. I’ve had tons of wins. I’ve done everything I set out to achieve.”
On Saturday night, Bisping again found himself ringside, working the broadcast of the UFC Fight Night London card at the O2 Arena as an onsite studio analyst for ESPN+.
During the night’s main card between fights, a video package was played for the crowd and the home audience where it was officially revealed that Michael Bisping has been named as the first inductee in the 2019 UFC Hall of Fame class.
Bisping’s induction will take place on Friday, July 5 in Las Vegas as part of this year’s Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony.
Shortly after the announcement was made, the video package was posted to the official UFC Twitter page, featuring comments from Daniel Cormier, UFC President Dana White, play-by-play announcers Jon Anik and John Gooden, and analyst Dan Hardy.
The video also included remarks from Bisping’s wife, Rebecca.
