After the Wisconsin Badgers epic win over the No.1 overall seed Villanova Wildcats this past Saturday, it’s easy for the mind to wander a bit. You may let the adrenaline and joy of the massive victory take your thoughts from Buffalo straight to Phoenix. I mean, you have the memory of the two trips to the Final Four in the recent past. And, heck, others are saying it too, christening us the dark horse or other clichéd junk of that sort.

But, stop.

Just as I imagine a literal trip from Buffalo to Phoenix would likely require a stop at JFK or LaGuardia, this analogical trip will have at least a layover in New York City. And if you’re not careful, it could end up being the final destination.

With the planes, trains, and automobiles section of this article now concluded, let’s get down to business. Sure, you may be excited but the Badgers have a long way to go before any Final Four berths are awarded. And before you think about that, or the Elite Eight for that matter, 100 percent devotion is required to the Florida Gators.

So, what do we know about the Florida Gators? Well, for starters, they come from an SEC Conference that is surprising a lot of folks in this NCAA Tournament. Just as the Big Ten is also exuding, the SEC has proven thorough depth. The obvious surprise is South Carolina but the Gators did a strong job in subduing an upset-minded East Tennessee State team before absolutely gutting a Virginia team that was ranked in the top 15 for most of the season. In short, they’re darn good and have proven that so far in the NCAA Tournament.

We’ll break the Gators down in depth as we get closer to Friday’s game. Just to reiterate, it’s plenty okay for we, fans, to be excited by an incredible win, but the Badgers have plenty of work to do before anyone is going to Phoenix.
