Big Blue Madness was fantastic, duh.

Per usual, Big Blue Madness did not disappoint. The University of Kentucky never fails to pull out all of the stops in efforts to generate as much excitement as possible about the upcoming basketball season. 2018 was no different, after Big Blue Madness on Friday night I went from being dialed into football season, to anxiously anticipating the start of basketball.

Three-point shooting and Dunk contest!

This year fans were treated to an unexpected 3 point shooting and dunk contest. I was very surprised by this as it was a first in the Calipari era. Immanuel Quickley barely edged out Tyler Herro in the three point shooting contest on a last shot from the corner. It was highly entertaining and marked Immanuel Quickley’s second major three point shooting contest crown, he also won the 2018 McDonald’s All-American Game contest. The dunk contest was pretty hype for only having a total of three participants. Tyler Herro, P.J. Washington, and Keldon Johnson all entertained the crowd in different ways. Ultimately, Washington won after jumping over two people and slamming it home. That being said, I thought Keldon Johnson’s dunks were low key incredible. I think missing his first few attempts in each round gave his final product a bit less flare. But the competitions did nothing but get the Big Blue Nation salivating for some real hoops. Patience my friends, the storm is coming.

Which player are you looking forward to seeing most?

Before writing this I was looking for any reason to not just say that Tyler Herro is the player I am getting the most excited to see. Why? To be honest, I feel like most everyone would give that answer and I wanted to give some shine to another deserving players. But I just can’t do that. Tyler Herro can do so many things on the court and is going to add a dimension to Kentucky’s offense that will make opposing defenses cringe. If you missed it, not only was Tyler Herro a shot away from winning the three point shooting contest at Big Blue Madness, but he also gave fans a really nostalgic moment during the dunk contest. In his final attempt after a rough outing in the first two rounds, Herro put on a Rex Chapman #3 jersey and slammed home a nice one-footed rim rocker.

How can anyone not be pumped about watching this kid play in Rupp Arena?
