Bellator MMA is back in action this Friday and Saturday with a weekend doubleheader as the promotion returns to Hawaii, specifically Honolulu, and the Neil Blaisdell Arena.

The action begins Friday night with a special event, as Bellator hosts its annual Bellator Salutes the Troops card.

Bellator Salutes the Troops is a joint venture between the mixed martial arts promotion and the USO to honor our country’s servicemen and women.

In total, this event features eight MMA contests in Honolulu on Friday night.

Undercard action will begin at 8:45 p.m. EST, 5:45 p.m. PST, 3:45 p.m. HST on DAZN, bellator.com/live and the Bellator mobile app, with the main card following at 10 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. PST, 5 p.m. HST on DAZN and Paramount Network.

Highlighting the Friday night card is a non-title fight in the Heavyweight division between 35-8 Josh Barnett and 19-7 Ronny Markes.

This main attraction will be a maximum of three rounds at five minutes per round.

Contender Comparison:

Heading into Friday night’s main event, Josh Barnett is the taller fighter, standing 6-foot-3, two inches taller Ronny Markes’ 6-foot-1 frame.

Josh Barnett has posted a record of 3-2 in his last five MMA appearances, winning last time out against Andrei Arlovski (third-round submission- rear-naked choke) in UFC Fight Night on Sept. 3, 2016.

Friday’s main event is Barnett’s first fight since signing a contract to join Bellator MMA last spring.

In the other corner, Ronny Markes has also gone 3-2 in his last five MMA fights, most recently scoring a second-round knockout in PFL 3 vs. Sigi Pesaleli back in June on ESPN+.

The Tale of the Tape:

According to Tapology, Josh Barnett has a three-inch reach advantage (78 inches to 75 inches) over Ronny Markes.

Prediction: Josh Barnett by decision.
