The Boston College men’s basketball team’s season ended on a disappointing note after losing their last two games of the season against UNC and NC State. This finish placed them in 11th in the ACC, matching them with Pitt in the first round on the ACC tournament in Charlotte on Tuesday.

The Eagles were defeated by a final score of 79-66 against the Tar Heels in a game that got out of hand by the end of the first half. BC’s two stars this season, Nik Popovic and Ky Bowman, were the entire source of offense for the team, as they combined for 43 of the team’s 66 points. Bowman had 23 and grabbed nine rebounds, while Popovic finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.

The real downfall for the Eagles was their inability to grab a rebound, as UNC totaled 20 offensive boards and 60 in total, while BC only managed to accumulate 35 rebounds in all. These second-chance points were killer for the Eagles, and any time they managed to string a few good defensive possessions together, they would be out-hustled and allow a basket on the second-chance opportunity.

The loss to NC State was equally lopsided and frustrating, in what was likely Ky Bowman’s last game in Conte Forum. Before the game, the star point guard tweeted that it would possibly be his last home performance and that after the season he would sit down with his family and decide his next career move.

On the floor, the Eagles were absolutely obliterated, losing by a final score of 73-47. The Eagles struggled to find a bucket anywhere on the floor, shooting only 27 percent from the field and a measly 16 percent from deep.

BC was again dominated on the boards and ended with a negative 20 rebound differential. Bowman scored 14 in his swansong while adding three steals. On a more positive note, Steffon Mitchell turned in one of his best performances of the season, finishing with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Hey guys, I’m Mike Malley. I’m from Westchester, NY, just north of NYC and have been a sports fan all my life. Despite being from the Big Apple, my sports allegiances are not all to New York teams. I root for the Mets and Rangers, but also am a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Heat. I also love watching soccer, especially my beloved Chelsea in the English Premier League. Now that I’m at Boston College, the Eagles are my number one priority and favorite team. I started writing for the sports section of the school newspaper my freshman year, and am super excited to be joining the Armchair team! Go Eagles!
