The Boston College baseball team bounced back after a tough loss against UConn on Wednesday to take two out of three games against No. 21 FSU this past weekend. The 2-2 week brings the Eagles’ record to 14-13, including 5-7 in the very difficult ACC.

The first four innings of the 3-1 loss to Connecticut were filled with action, as the Huskies put up two runs in the first inning before BC battled back in the second to close the gap to one. UConn added one more in the fourth, but the rest of the game was a defensive masterclass with both pitching staffs shutting down their opponents.

The Eagles’ only run came off of an error that scored first baseman, Jack Cunningham. Cunningham was BC’s star, going 2-for-4 at the plate, as well as making ten outs on defense.

The Florida State series was an impressive showing by the Eagles, who had not won a conference series heading into the matchup. BC’s bats came alive for the entire weekend, as the team scored 21 runs in the three games, four more than any ACC clash prior. The teams split the first two games, with the Eagles winning the first and the Seminoles taking the second. This placed great importance on Sunday’s rubber match, which BC dominated 8-0.

Game three was a fantastic team effort, with eight of the 11 batters getting a hit, as well as some sublime pitching. Notably, center fielder Sal Frelick homered to continue his hot start to the season, bringing his average up to .357, while Cody Morissette added three hits as well as an RBI. The star of the game, however, was freshman pitcher Mason Pelio who threw seven innings of two-hit ball and struck out eight.

Young players have been huge bright spots for the Eagles, who played four freshmen in the rout of FSU. The aforementioned Frelick and Morrissette are each batting over .340, while first-year catcher Peter Burns has pulled his weight offensively as well, hitting .268. Additionally, Pelio’s record climbed to 4-1, while his ERA dropped to 1.45. While this year may not be perfect for BC, the future is certainly bright with young stars like these.

Hey guys, I’m Mike Malley. I’m from Westchester, NY, just north of NYC and have been a sports fan all my life. Despite being from the Big Apple, my sports allegiances are not all to New York teams. I root for the Mets and Rangers, but also am a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Heat. I also love watching soccer, especially my beloved Chelsea in the English Premier League. Now that I’m at Boston College, the Eagles are my number one priority and favorite team. I started writing for the sports section of the school newspaper my freshman year, and am super excited to be joining the Armchair team! Go Eagles!
