Auburn Softball is in the midst of a spectacular season, which is no surprise after the success that the team has enjoyed over the last few years. The Tigers currently sit on a record of 36-8 and are coming off of a series win over the 10th ranked Tennessee Volunteers. The Tigers jumped up to eighth in the most recently released rankings after taking the series 2-1. After falling in the first game against the Volunteers by a single run, the Tigers were able to put together two solid games of pitching that led to back-to-back shutouts.
New Coach, Same Success
In head coach Mickey Dean’s first season as the leader of the Tigers, Auburn has climbed to the top 10 of the national rankings, and it looks like the Tigers have continued right from where they left off last season. The Tigers currently sit fifth in the SEC rankings, but they have a chance to improve that standing as the season comes to a close. The Tigers will finish the season with nine conference games before a season-closing 2-game series against Chattanooga.
This weekend, the Tigers will travel to Columbia, MO to take on the bottom-ranked (in the SEC) Missouri Tigers. The Tigers have not lost a conference series since the second week of March against the LSU Tigers. They will look to keep that streak alive when facing the opposing Tigers. Despite Missouri being the last team in the SEC, no game in the conference is a guaranteed win. The Tigers should not overlook Missouri before returning home to take on the 31-8 Arkansas Razorbacks.
Auburn has 11 games remaining in the season before what could be yet another deep playoff run. The Tigers will look to maintain their late-season momentum through the finish and into the postseason.
