The month of August is well upon us, and that means Auburn football is less than a month away from returning for the 2018 season. As we close in on the kickoff of college football, every team is preparing for battle, and several major position competitions are determining which teams will make it into the CFP at the end of the season. The Pre-Season Coaches Poll, which was released on Thursday, is one poll used to gauge which teams are viewed as the best in the nation. There were not many surprises at the top of the poll, as Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia were ranked as the top four teams, respectively.
Auburn ranked Top 10
In the poll, one major note is that the Auburn Tigers are ranked at #10, most notably ahead of Notre Dame and Michigan and behind Miami. This marks the fourth time in the last five years that the Tigers have been ranked between 6 and 12 in the pre-season coaches poll. Auburn is one of five SEC teams that were recognized in the Top 25 this year, along with the aforementioned Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs, as well as Mississippi State and LSU.
High stakes to start the season
Auburn will start off its season in just over four weeks in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Tigers will be featured in the CFA Kickoff Game against the Washington Huskies. Washington came in at #6 in the Coaches Poll, putting both teams in the top 10. With the game likely being the premiere matchup of opening weekend, it is possible that College Gameday will be on site for the event.
