Gonzalez was the 224th overall selection and the only Sun Devil taken in the draft this year.
Gonzalez was the recipient of the 2017 Lou Groza award, given to the top collegiate placekicker in the United States.
Gonzalez is the NCAA’s (and ASU’s) all-time leader in field goals made with 96 in his career. The kicker also led ASU in points scored this year with 108.
Gonzalez will be officially required to report to camp on July 25, but might be meeting with team officials and working out with the team once he signs his rookie deal to prepare for the kicker competition.
Looking ahead to next season for the Sun Devils, they will look to find a replacement for Gonzalez, and the answer might be redshirt junior John O’Brien.
O’Brien has not had much of an opportunity to do anything for the Sun Devils outside of practice because of Gonzalez’s success.
However, O’Brien will have a chance to compete for placekicking duties this year according to thesundevils.com.
O’Brien’s competition will be freshman Brandon Ruiz from Gilbert, Arizona.
