Arizona State Football looked dead in the water after a lifeless 20-13 loss to Stanford on October 18. Since then, the Devils have won three straight contests, including vital Pac-12 victories at USC and against Utah. ASU pried open the door to the conference championship game, and potentially the Rose Bowl, but now they need to run through.

Arizona State (4-3 in conference) trails the first place Utes (5-3) by half of a game with two left on their schedule. The Devils play Oregon in Eugene on Saturday and then Arizona in Tucson to end the season, which could be for the division. ASU and the Wildcats have identical Pac-12 records at 4-3.

ASU controls its own destiny: two wins to finish the season wins the Pac-12 South. Both are on the road, where it has struggles this season, but Arizona State came up big in their latest away matchup at USC. The Devils won a hard-fought battle 38-35, led by a 185 yard, two touchdown afternoon by the third leading rusher in the country, Eno Benjamin. Also, the Devils would win the South if they lose to Oregon but beat Arizona as long as Utah loses this week.

Utah wins the division if they hand Colorado its sixth-straight loss this week and ASU drops one of their final games. Or, if the Utes lose to the Buffaloes, they’ll need ASU to lose out, plus Arizona must lose to Washington State.

Arizona needs a lot of help to punch their ticket to the Pac-12 Title game. The Wildcats must win out, plus Utah, ASU and USC need to lose this week.

Speaking of, USC (4-4) is the fourth team that could finish tied for first in the South, but they can’t win the division. USC is the odd team out in every multiple team tiebreaker after losing to both Utah and ASU.

The Pac-12 South has been jumbled all season, but with two weeks remaining, coach Herm Edwards’s squad is the only one that controls its own destiny. Utah’s schedule favors them, but Arizona State is playing well and are shockingly in the driver’s seat of the Pac-12 South after the inconsistent season.

I am from Los Angeles and I am a huge Angels, Clippers and Baltimore Ravens fan (liked them long before the Rams came). I loved playing and watching sports growing up and since I don’t consider myself an MLB talent, sports journalism seemed like the way to go. I am a sophomore at Arizona State. In my first year, I covered ASU Baseball and Women’s Basketball for Devils in Detail. I also had a sports talk radio show called Road to Glory on the student radio station Blaze Radio, and I am on that show again along with a couple of podcasts on blazeradioonline.com. I also called a couple of ASU softball games for the station. I work as a cameraman and did color commentary for high school athletics for School Space Media.
