But in their home game against the Orlando Magic Tuesday night several players played well and helped the Sixers get the 114-106 win.
The Amir Johnson Game
Johnston played exceptional defense throughout the entire game on Nikola Vucevic, making him settle for shots away from the basket. He outscored Vucevic 13-12 and totally outplayed the all-star in his 20 minutes.
He deserves a lot of credit for stepping up and playing well despite not being in Brett Brown’s rotation through most the season. Just a few weeks ago, Johnston drove to Delaware to play in a G-League game just to keep in shape.
JJ Redick finally broke out of his slump going 6-of-9 from 3 and led the Sixers with 26 points.
Mike Scott continued his hot streak off the bench going 3-of-8 from 3 including a big 3 to put the Sixers up six with 47.9 seconds to go in the game.
Jimmy Butler wasn’t a focal point in the offense through most of the game but showed up when it counted the most. After the Magic cut the Sixers lead 101-99 late in the fourth, he made two critical buckets to up jump-start the offense.
When asked after the game about his role on this team, Butler seemed to understand that his value comes latein close games.
“I understand my role, I’m cool with it,” Butler said, via Andrew Porter.
He was active on defense with deflections, which lead to several fast-break opportunities. He also played good defense against Vucevic when isolated in the paint despite giving up four inches on him.
Ben Simmons played his typical all-around game with 16 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists.
Tobias Harris added 21 points and 12 rebounds. He continues to thrive in this Sixers offense and continues to look more comfortable.
“He just plays with grace,” Brett Brown said after the game via Tom Moore. “He’s like a quiet assassin. I just like coaching him.”
