Tennessee goes up against the No.1 undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide this Saturday. The Vols are riding high after getting their first conference win of the season last week vs Mississippi state. If you’re Tennessee this matchup couldn’t have come at a worse time. Just when they were  building some momentum, they have to go up against their rival and unfortunately I don’t think there’s much of a chance they can win.

Who Are They?

Alabama has more than a few familiar faces to most Vol fans. They are coached by arguably the greatest coach in college football history in Nick Saban. It’s well known that Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt was Saban’s DC for two season’s before leaving Alabama to take the Tennessee job. If you’re watching the game on ESPN then you’ll hear them talk about this countless times this Saturday. Saban has only lost to Tennessee once and is 18-0 in games against former assistants. So things don’t look so promising

Offense

On offense Alabama has a Heisman frontrunning quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa. Last season Tua passed for over 3900 yards and threw 43 touchdowns. This season he’s on pace to have an even more promising season. At receiver, they are probably the best in the country. Jerry Jeaudy, Henry Ruggs III, Devonte Smith, and Jaylen Waddle. Each receiver has over 1,000 career receiving yards and are all lethal threats through the air. At running back the Tide are as good as always. With backs Najee Harris and Brian Robinson leading the charge. Harris had 783 yards last season and looks to double that production with already having 451 rushing yards only 6 games into the season.

Defense

For the first time I can ever remember Nick Saban’s offense is actually better than his defense. They are only averaging letting up 17 points a game but Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Texas A&M were all able to put at least 23 points up on them. I’m not going to tell you that the Vols will too, but after what we saw this week it wouldn’t surprise me to see them get into the end zone at least a couple times.

 Conclusion

I hate to say it but Alabama is probably going to win this game and probably by a lot. Vegas has Alabama listed as a 34.5 favorite but Tennessee can hopefully make it a lot closer than what that line is insinuating. Tennessee has an opportunity Saturday to come out and try and make something happen against the no.1 team in the country. I don’t think there’s any chance the Vols win, but I do think they can make it interesting

Prediction: Vols 21 Alabama 49
