A’ja Wilson was picked first in the 2018 WNBA Draft on Thursday night.

The Las Vegas Aces, whose franchise just relocated from San Antonio, drafted Wilson with the overall No. 1 pick.

Many consider Wilson to be the greatest Gamecock athlete of all-time. She is the third No. 1 overall pick in school history, joining George Rogers and Jadeveon Clowney.

Wilson had tremendous success in her time at South Carolina. She led the Gamecocks to a national championship and four straight SEC Tournament titles. Wilson also won several women’s Player of the Year awards this season and was a four-time All-SEC selection.

I am a student at the University of South Carolina majoring in broadcast journalism. Since arriving at USC, I have worked as a sports reporter at SGTV, our student-run campus TV station. I grew up in Goose Creek, SC (a suburb of Charleston). Before arriving at USC, I was a sports reporter at Goose Creek High School (where Javon Kinlaw and Brandon Shell played high school ball). Growing up in South Carolina, I’ve been following the Gamecocks my entire life and I am looking forward to covering them here at ArmChair!
